CPS / NEXT STEPS

What Happens After Guard Card Training?

Finishing your Guard Card course is an important milestone, but it is not the end of the California process. The next steps are about submitting accurate information through the state system.

THE GUIDE

Save your certificate

Download and store your CPS certificate somewhere safe. Keep the name and completion information consistent with your application records.

Follow the BSIS application process

Use the current state instructions to submit your Guard Card application, required fee, and supporting information.

Complete background-check steps

Follow the Live Scan and criminal-history instructions connected to your application. Keep receipts and confirmation details.

Prepare for employment

Employers may ask for registration information, additional training, or site-specific qualifications. A course certificate does not replace employer requirements.

Requirements and fees can change. Confirm current information with California BSIS and use Breeze when directed by the state.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions students ask

Can I work immediately after finishing the class?

Do not assume course completion alone authorizes employment. Follow current BSIS rules and employer requirements before accepting a post.

Where do I find the next official step?

The BSIS Security Guard resources explain the state application and registration process.
